Tim and Jeanne Neal opened Lombardo’s on January 15, 1985, just a few weeks before their 11th wedding anniversary. More than three decades and countless pizzas later, the restaurant and their marriage are still going strong! Lombardo’s is named for Jeanne’s step-father, the late Jack Lombardo. “Grandpa” owned Italian restaurants in South Florida in the ’60s and helped Tim and Jeanne learn the ropes in what would become the couple’s commitment to serving delicious, Italian specialties.
Daughters Shannon and Laura were in second grade when their parents dished out Lombardo’s first bowl of pasta and homemade meatballs. They literally grew up at the restaurant – working after school in between doing homework and visiting with the many customers who had quickly become extended family. Today, Shannon is part-owner, waiting tables and whipping up the best cheesecakes you’ve ever tasted. Laura lives and works in Jacksonville, but she comes home frequently to pitch in or, more likely, fill up on delicious dinners.
Family-owned and operated small restaurants are few and far between these days, let alone one that has satisfied customers for more than 30 years. The Neals’ success lies as much in the fresh ingredients and secret recipes as it does in their love of family, friends and great food. Thank you for dining with us!
